On October 26, 2006, the Industry lost the respected innovator, lecturer, and consultant, Kenneth G. Chapman to pancreatic cancer. Ken was renowned for his forward-thinking approach to regulatory issues and best practices. Many of his ideas have become standards in industry. Along with a life-time of work at Kemper-Masterson, Pfizer, and Drumbeat Dimensions, Ken worked with the FDA to identify specific GMP requirements for the preparation of clinical supplies. He served as a member of the American Society for Quality, he worked with the Parenteral Drug Association, and for over 50 years he was as an active, contributing member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
Ken served regulated Industry in many other ways. Besides lecturing and writing, Ken served on the Editorial Advisory Boards of both the Journal of Validation Technology and Pharmaceutical Technology. He also co-chaired a joint Pharmaceutical Manufacturer's Association committee (QC and R&D).
As a testament to his life-long commitment to Industry and achievement of his goals IVT has instituted an annual award in his honor to be bestowed yearly at our Validation Week event - held in October.
We invite you to nominate the individual who you feel has contributed to the Industry in the spirit of Ken Chapman.
*** In 2007, Jerry Lanese, Ph.D., President, The Lanese Group received the Kenneth Chapman Industry Recognition Award for his contributions to the Pharmaceutical industry.
