Scott V.W. Sutton, Ph.D.
Dr. Scott Sutton earned his Bachelor of Science degree in genetics from the University of California at Davis, and his Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in microbiology from the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY. After a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellowship at the Medical College of Virginia, he went to work for Bausch and Lomb until 1994 when he accepted a position at Alcon Laboratories. Dr. Sutton left Alcon Laboratories in 2004 as a director in the research and development division to accept a position as Pharma Consultant (Microbiology) with Vectech Pharmaceutical Consultants, Inc. There he assisted companies as varied as start-ups, generics, and established pharmaceutical innovators with laboratory management and compliance issues, process change opportunities, project management, aseptic facilities start-up, investigations, implementation of rapid microbiological methodologies, and sterility assurance issues. Since leaving Vectech as Senior Director, Microbiology Services, he consults independently as the owner of Microbiology Network, Inc.
Dr. Sutton is an active author and speaker for the industry (over 40 publications and 300 presentations to international audiences) and has served with the United States Pharmacopeia Analytical Microbiology Committee of Experts since 1993. He is also the current president of the Pharmaceutical Microbiology Forum, a not-for-profit user’s group with a monthly newsletter and active e-mail discussion groups (PMFList for microbiology and PSDGList for stability program issues).
